Music Composition

Music Works is a music elective for 10th through 12th grade students interested in creating original music compositions and performing original music. Students select either the composer track or the performer/composer track. Students need not play an instrument to enroll in Music Works. Music notation software and other applications are utilized to build and develop a functional understanding of music harmony. Students examine every style of music including jazz, classical, blues and pop to gain an understanding of common practice from the early 17th century up to the present day, and then use these practices in their own musical creations, applying musical theory to a real world application. The class culminates with the completion and performance of a musical composition performed by professional musicians.
