Monday, April 25th

  • 5:45 am: Set your Alarms! Meet at Charlton Street for bus to LGA. We will depart as quickly as possible.
  • 8:45 am: Flight: LGA direct to Detroit, Michigan DELTA 189
  • 11:00 am: Arrive Detroit airport; shuttle vans to Inn on Ferry Street
  • 12:00 pm: Unload bags at Inn on Ferry Street
  • 12:15: Lunch and walk to CASS for Workshop
  • 1:30 pm: Workshop with CASS
  • 5:00: Check in at Inn on Ferry Street and rest 7:15: Dinner

Tuesday, April 26th

  • 7:00 am: Breakfast at Inn on Ferry Street
  • 8:15 am: Travel to Detroit Achievement Academy: tour and conversation with principal
  • 10:15 am: Travel to University Preparatory Academy Elementary: serve lunch and read to students.
  • 1:00 pm: Travel to Edibles Rex for tour and conversation with Founder Thomasina Tedesco
  • 2:00 pm: Meeting with Blair Evans, BKBA School
  • 3:15 pm: Travel back to Inn on Ferry Street; rest
  • 4:30 pm: Travel to Mosaic Theatre Company for panel with theatre students
  • 5:30 pm: Pizza dinner with students from Mosaic Theatre Company
  • 6:00 pm: Watch Mosaic Theatre rehearsal
  • 7:00 pm: Return to Inn on Ferry Street

Wednesday, April 27th

  • 8:00 am: Breakfast at Inn on Ferry Street
  • 9:00 pm: Tour of Detroit with Richard Feldman from Boggs Center
  • 12:00 pm: Lunch in neighborhood and conversation with Kim
  • 2:30 pm: Education conversation with Ethan Lowenstein
  • 4:00 pm: Return to Inn on Ferry Street; rest
  • 6:00 pm: Detroit Tigers Game!

Thursday, April 28th

  • 8:00 am: Breakfat at Inn on Ferry Street
  • 9:00 am: Travel to Palmer Park Preperatory Academy (P3A) for volunteer work in community garden
  • 1:00 pm: Meeting with Detroit Public School Board member Elena Herrada
  • 3:00 pm: Return to Inn on Ferry Street; rest
  • 6:00 pm: Dinner and neighborhood walk

Friday, April 29th

  • 8:00 am: Breakfast at Inn on Ferry Street
  • 9:00 am: Travel to airport
  • 12:05: Flight: Delta 1948 direct to New York
  • 1:57 pm: Arrival @ LaGuardia; students are either picked up at airport or travel to school with teachers

Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit

Founded by Rick Sperling in 1992 to address gaps in Metro Detroit arts education, Mosaic served 25 young artists in its inaugural year.Today, hundreds of youth from more than 50 Metro Detroit schools participate in Mosaic’s First, Second and Main Stage programs every year. These innovative programs provide expert training, mentoring and opportunity to the area’s young actors, singers, and stage technicians, while fostering a culture of high expectations, active participation and acceptance that serves them beyond the stage.
