Over the course of the first three days of school, the 11th graders engage in a series of active learning exercises that help them to narrow in on the topics that will frame the ultimate design of their week-long trips in the spring.

The initial brainstorming activities ask students to identify pressing social justice issues in a range of different contexts: global, national, city and neighborhood.

Following the brainstorming activity, students began the process of identifying issues of deeper interest. In this phase, individuals or pairs of students facilitated conversations with interested peers to dig deeper into the issues and questions connected with these topics.
